SECRET LONDON / LONDRES SECRETO

**CHRISTCHURCH  GREYFRIARS (monjes) ROSE GARDEN.
Just around the corner from Postman's Park is a beautiful rose garden in the remains of a derelict (abandonada) church.
Four queens, including the infamous Queen Isabella were buried here in the original Franciscan Church of Greyfriars (1225), which burnt down (se quemó) in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
The famous architect Sir Christopher Wren built a new church between 1687 and 1704, but this was destroyed during World War II.
The west tower still stands, with rose gardens outlining (perfilando) the nave of Wren's Church.

VISITING INFO
Address:  Postman's Park, King Edward Street.
Entry:  free (gratis). Open 7 days a week from 8am to 7pm.
Underground (Metro) station:  St Paul's.

**THE NEADSEN TEMPLE
The Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir  is a marble (mármol) Hindu temple.  With its spectacular domes (cúpulas) it appears as if the Taj Mahal has been relocated to suburban north-west London.
Opened in 1995, the temple was constructed using around 2,000 tonnes of Italian Carrara marble and 3,000 tonnes of Bulgarian limestone (piedra caliza), carved in India by more than 1,500 crafstmen (artesanos).

VISITING INFO
Address:   105-119 Brentfield Road, Neasden.
Entry: free, 9am to 6pm daily.
Underground station: Neasden.
Website: http://www.mandir.org/
As the mandir is a sacred place, there are a few rules for visitors.  No shorts or short skirts can be worn in the temple.  Shoes must be removed before entering and photography, food and drink are not allowed (permitidos).  The temple has its own restaurant serving authentic vegetarian food.

**THE LONDON SILVER  VAULTS (cámaras acorazadas)
Three floors under the city, a labyrinth of more than 30 shops contains the largest collection of antique silver in the world.  The London Silver Vaults began life as  the Chancery Lane Safe Deposit in 1876.  Wealthy (ricos) Londoners would store (almacenar) their household (de casa) valuables (objetos de valor) here.  With walls over a metre thick (espeso) and steel-lined (revestidas de acero), they were very safe.  During World War II a bomb destroyed the building above the ground but left the vaults untouched!  After 1953 the "strong rooms" were converted into shops. It is estimated that the contents of the London Silver Vaults have a total value of over 50 million pounds!

VISITING INFO
Address: 53-64 Chancery Lane, on the corner of Southampton Buildings.
Entry: free, from Monday to Friday  9am to 5.30 pm, Saturday  9am to 1pm.

REVISION OF TENSES / Revisión de tiempos verbales.

Hi everybody, if you have time, please, do this exercise!

REVISION OF TENSES

**Si en nuestra frase vemos las palabras YESTERDAY, LAST (DAY, WEEK, MONTH, YEAR, etc), el tiempo será siempre PASADO SIMPLE / SIMPLE PAST. Ejemplo:  I saw Peter yesterday.  Yesterday my friends went to the theatre.

**Si en nuestra frase aparecen las palabras NOW, AT THE MOMENT, RIGHT NOW, el tiempo a emplear será PRESENTE CONTINUO /PRESENT CONTINUOUS. Ejemplo:  The baby is sleeping at the moment.  Are you studying right now?

Ejemplo:  I'm meeting Paul tonight.  She's leaving tomorrow.

** Si en nuetra frase encontramos NEXT WEEK (MONTH, SUMMER, YEAR) etc, emplearemos el FUTURO SIMPLE. Ejemplo:  We will go swimming next weekend.  Will you study French next year?

Ejemplo: Have you ever been to London?   Has Mary ever played football?

**Si en nuestra frase aparecen las palabras SINCE o FOR, emplearemos también el PRESENT PERFECT.  Ejemplo:  I haven't seen him since his birthday.  They have waited for two hours.

Ejemplo:  My son always goes to school at nine.  I usually go to gym twice a week.

LET'S DO ONE OF THEM!  ¡Vamos a hacer uno de ellos!

Choose the correct verb forms to complete the sentences.
1.- "Can you help me?"  "Sorry, not just now.  I _____________ (work).
2.- "What does she do?" "I'm not sure.  I think she __________ (work) in a bank.
3.- We ________(go) to Canada on holiday next summer.
4.- Tim usually _______(go) to Scotland in August .
5.- I _______(see) Mathew yesterday.
6.- I _______(see) three good films this week.
7.- Alice _______(know) her boyfriend for three weeks.
8.- _____you ever ______(want) to change your job?
9.- Look at those black clouds.  I'm sure it _______(rain).
10.- If you ______(need) help, I _______(do) what I can.

¡A VER QUÉ TAL OS SALE!

Enjoy them!   ¡Que los disfrutéis!

WEATHER FORECAST
Tomorrow
if it rains
I will dance in the rain with you.

If it snows
we will make snow pancakes
and eat them together.

If it is cold
I will warm myself
with your smile.

If it is hot
I will cool myself
with your slow clear voice.

If there is fog
I will be happy
to lose myself for a time.
(But please
come and find me
won't you?)

**What a nice love poem!   Don't you think so?

WHEN YOU GROW UP
If you are beautiful
when you grow up
we will be pleased.
And if you look like your father
we will still be quite pleased.

If you are angry at the world
we will understand.

If you fight us
we will try
not to fight back.

If you grow up
to be an artist
an airline pilot
or an import-export-expert
that will be fine.
Shop assistant
sheep farmer
professor or palaeontology
will be great.
Anything you want to be
will be fine
(except advertising
religion
or the military).

If you become rich and famous
don't worry.
We will not be too proud
to live on your money.

If you marry
marry anybody you want to
we will not mind
it will be your decision
you will be absolutely free.
Nobody will be good enough for you anyway.
(Only
don't marry somebody we don't like).

If you realise
one day
that your parents are idiots *(aquí idiot va en plural porque es un nombre no un adjetivo)
we hope you will tell us
in the nicest possible way.

Have a good life.

** What a sarcastic family poem!

** Which are your opinions or comments about these poems?  Do you like them?  Don't you like them? Which of them do you like most?

"MME. LA COMTESSE" Chapitre 7

Bonjour!

TRAVEL / ABERDEEN (Scotland)

A new advice about travelling to UK.

ABERDEEN /  PRIDE OF SCOTLAND

Every year the Scottish city of Aberdeen commemorates the Scottish martyr William Wallace with parades of Scottish pipes bands and medieval musicians.
William Wallace is tHe inspiration behind the movie "Braveheart".

Aberdeen is the third largest city and is located on the north-east coast.  It's known as the Granite City, or Silver City because its Victorian buildings were constructed with granite.

Firstly, the city was famous as a fishing port but nowadays it has become The Oil Capital of Europe because of the discovery of oil in the North Sea.

Aberdeen has many beautiful parks and gardens.

You can do the Grampian castle trail (la ruta de los castillos)  which connects the castles of Crathes, Drum and Balmoral which is the Scottish residence of Queen Elizabeth.  A good way to see the castles is by hot air balloon with a Virgin Champagne Balloon Flight.

If you're planning to go,  here you are some information:

*Aberdeen is about 150 km north-east of Edinburgh (capital of Scotland and a magnificent city too).
*The city covers three hills, and is located at the mouth (desembocadura) of two rivers the Dee and the Don.
*The city's name comes form Gaelic "Aber" meaning convergence and "da-aevi" meaning two rivers.
*Aberdeen airport offers flights to most destinations in Europe.
*There are regular trains from Edinburgh and London every day.

LECTURE "MME LA COMTESSE"

Salut mes amis, ça va le mardi?  Nous continuons avec notre lecture de mystère.

CHAPITRE 6

I

a encontrarse. La llamada, no obstante,
se escuchó en la vereda.

III

Describe maravillosamente personajes y situaciones.

Igualmente, incluiremos relatos cortos.

CHAPITRE 5

**ACHILL ISLAND  (Ireland)
Achill is a beautiful island on the west coast of Ireland which has attracted many painters.
It is the perfect place to have a rest. Nature is everywhere.  It's a real small island where the weather is changing at every moment, you can have four seasons in an hour sometimes!

You can see there beaches and cliffs (acantilados). It is like a miniature version of Ireland.
The wild beauty of Achill has inspired a lot of artists. People who like nature, are surely  going to enjoy these countrysides.

AND NOW A LITTLE AND FUNNY STORY.
Y ahora una pequeña y divertida historieta.

A FORTUNE TELLER  (una adivina)
Hundreds of years ago a king went to see a fortune teller to know what she could predict about his future.
The fortune teller told the king that one of his wives would die (morir) that year but the king didn't believe (creer) her  and left laughing (riéndose).
Unfortunately, that year one of his wives died and he remembered the fortune teller's words and at that very moment, he thought that she had caused the death of his wife.  So, he decided that the woman had to die , too.

He ordered to call the woman and when she was before him he asked:  "Some months ago you told me that one of my wives would die this year and that has happened so you are a fortune teller, tell me right now:  WHEN WILL YOU DIE?
At once (en seguida), the fortune teller realised (se dio cuenta)  that the king was planning to kill (matar) her and answer him: "I WILL DIE THREE DAYS BEFORE YOU DO,  YOUR MAJESTY".

ALGUNOS CHISTES. SOME JOKES!

Hi my dear bloggers, let's start the week with a smile!

** THE HUMAN BEING ORIGINS
One day a little girl asked her father: "Daddy, how did the human being (ser humano)  start?"
He answered: "Well, let me tell you, God made Adam and Eve and they had children and that's how mankind (humanidad)  was created".
Three days later the little girl asked her mother the same question.
Her mother answered:  "A lot of years ago there were monkeys (monos)  and the human race (raza humana) evolved (evolucionó)  from them."

The confused girl came back (volvió)  to her father and said: "Daddy, I can't understand! You told me that humans were created by God, but mummy said that they developed (se desarrollaron) from monkeys?"
Her father answered:  "Well, dear, it's simple:  I told you about my family and your mom told you about hers!"

** DEAR LUCY
A man is in prison for robbing more than 30 banks.  One day he receives a letter from his wife which says:

A few days later he receives another letter...

** CARPET
An old woman had bought a new carpet (moqueta) and the carpet fitted (el instalador de moqueta) was fitting it for her.
At a moment, the man went out of the house to smoke a cigarette but he couldn't find the packet.
He looked in his pockets and in his van (furgoneta), but he couldn't find them.  So, he went back into the room where he had fitted the carpet and he saw a small lump (bulto) under the carpet in the middle of the room so he decided to flatten (alisar, nivelar) it; he took a hammer (martillo) and banged (golpear) the carpet until it was really flat (lisa).

Suddenly, the woman walked into the room. She was holding (sujetando) a packet of cigarettes. She said: "I have found this in the hallway (pasillo) and I suppose it's yours but now I've got a problem because I can't find my budgie (periquito).  Have you seen it? ...

(from an article by E. Valli, National Geographic magazine)

His name is Mani Lal.  Like his father and his grandfather in central Nepal, he is a honey hunter.  With only a rope round his waist, he hangs over a 120-metre cliff on a rope ladder to harvest the sweet treasure of Apis laboriosa, the world's largest honeybee.
Thousands of angry bees fill the air as he pushes a bamboo pole into their nest.  But over his everyday shirt he wears only a cape on his head and a pair of old trousers given to him by a cousin serving in the British army.
He cuts thick pieces of honeycomb into a bamboo basket lined with the skin of a wild goat.  When the basket is full, he lowers it to his friends at the bottom of the cliff.
The sound of the giant bees is fightening, but Mani Lal moves quickly and calmyl.  He has done this many times.  He is 64 years old.
